John Terry Finally Names Who Should Be Chelsea Captain After Cesar Azpilicueta

“When your captain it’s important that you are a consistent performer, week in and week out,” John Terry told Stadium Astro about Cesar Azpilicueta.

“You give a solid seven or eight out of 10 every week. He does that for the group.

“And again, he is that example for everyone else to follow. I love what he does but I think the progression from that would probably lead itself to Mason [Mount] for me.

“I think Mason has got the ability to go on and I think he’s capable of grabbing the game by the scruff of the neck if we need to.

“The Chelsea fans relate to him. He is Chelsea through and through. His family are as well. I would personally love to see Mason take it.”

Cesar Azpilicueta’s future is still in doubt despite his one-year extension kicking in due to the number of games he has played. Regardless, when his time at the club is up, he’ll be a tough act to follow as the skipper.

Meanwhile, Mason Mount is not in the leadership group right now, with Jorginho, Thiago Silva, and Antonio Rudiger wearing the armband at some points this season.

Mount is just 23 years old, though, and the time is certainly on his side – although Reece James could have a serious case as well.
