Dutch journalist Mike Verweij, who has covered Erik ten Hag’s Ajax and is one of the reporters confirming that the 52-year-old will take charge of Man United, has given a less than assuring prediction for Cristiano Ronaldo’s future.
“Yes, I think Ronaldo will have to win over ten Hag,” Verweij told De Telegraaf.
“He is very much into the players, and a lot of them have, in the beginning, been lost with his work. That will not be different with Ronaldo. I’m very curious to see how that goes.”
Ronaldo might have scored 18 goals this season, but his return to United has not been an unqualified success. Most notably, he has struggled with his work off the ball, something that is very important for Ralf Rangnick.
We won’t figure out what Ten Hag will want from his team at Old Trafford until he actually arrives there. It’ll be very interesting to see if his demands match Ronaldo’s qualities.
