Ferdinand Calls Manchester United Transfer Decisions ‘Criminal’ As Pogba Is Set To Leave For Free

Rio Ferdinand went on his podcast to claim that Man United letting the likes of Pogba and Rashford running down their contracts, is ‘absolutely criminal’.

“I don’t think we should be allowed players to get down to this stage of their contracts, I don’t think it should happen.

“If someone like Marcus, like Pogba, you want to keep these players if they’re playing well, if you have the desire to keep them get it done and dusted.

“Economically, to let someone leave you’ve spent £80m-£90m, come in and leave plus wages, leave on a free transfer is absolutely criminal.

Although Rio’s point of securing players that have been bought for high transfer fees, has merit, it must also be noted that United has a history of an inflated wage bill over the past 10 years that has to be dealt with by offloading a lot of underperforming so-called ‘big names’.

It is also difficult to re-negotiate contracts when there is such uncertainty surrounding the club’s results while players and agents will always be looking for an improved offer.
