Karim Benzema Finally Tells Man United Players How To Adapt To Cristiano Ronaldo

Karim Benzema has revealed how he had to adapt his game alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, and how he has made changes since the Portuguese’s departure from Real Madrid.

The Manchester United superstar, of course, played alongside the French forward during his time at the Bernabeu, having left Old Trafford for the Spanish giants back in 2009.

Cristiano starred alongside the French international for nine seasons before eventually departing Madrid for Juventus in 2018.

During their time together, Ronaldo and Benzema formed one of the deadliest attacks in European football, with the goals heavily weighted in favor of the Portuguese star.

Since his departure from Spain, though, Benzema has seen his output reach new heights; having scored just 12 times in the 2017-18 season, the 34-year-old has gone on to grab 110 goals since Ronaldo’s departure and is currently on course for his most prolific season yet.

The shift in dynamic can be explained by Benzema’s change in position, having played on the right of a front three to assist Ronaldo in the center, before moving back centrally following the United star’s departure.

Explaining the difference, Benzema told France Football, as per Marca: “When he played for Real Madrid he scored between 50 and 60 goals a season.

“So you have to adapt to this reality. I had to move more on the pitch, give him space.

“When he left, what changed was that it was my turn to take over; to score goals and to provide assists to my other teammates.

“I’ve taken over in my own way and it’s going well.”

Benzema though was keen to stress he doesn’t view himself as the same type of player as Ronaldo, adding: “I don’t play like Cristiano Ronaldo and he doesn’t play like Karim Benzema.

“When Cristiano Ronaldo was at the club, I was more the one who created more goals and he the one who finished but now I have changed.”
