Chelsea goalkeeper Mendy reveals how Petr Cech made him one of the best in the world

In a recent tribute to Chelsea legend Petr Cech, Edouard Mendy revealed how vital the technical and performance advisor at Chelsea was one of the key factors in his decision to come to the club.

“Without Pete and Christoph, I don’t think I would be at Chelsea. So I will always be grateful to them and the best way to make them proud is to be the best I possibly can on the pitch, just doing my job,” he said.

“We have a new owner so it’s a new era. Some people are coming and some have left us. That’s life in the club. But we are excited to start.

“My summer was good. I enjoyed the time with my family and I think we all needed it after a long season, especially with the AFCON. I needed the break to be ready mentally and physically for the new year. Now we are.”

On another note, Gallagher reveals post-season chat with Tuchel over Chelsea future

In an interview with Mail+, Conor Gallagher opened up on the phone call that he had with Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season.

“I’ve got older brothers who say if you’ve got something you want to say, then do it,” Gallagher said.

Managers aren’t scary — they want to talk to their players and know what your thoughts are.

“I told him what I thought and he said what he thought. I said I think I’m ready to play for Chelsea.

“I feel ready for a step up in my career. If there is a chance to be a part of the team at Chelsea then I can’t turn it down. I’ve got to have belief in myself that I can show the fans and the boss what I can do.”

At the moment, Gallagher is with the Chelsea squad in the United States as he tries to stake his claim for a place in the team for the season.

By all accounts, Tuchel is a fan of the midfielder who excelled on loan at Crystal Palace and wants to give him a chance at Stamford Bridge.

According to Matt Law, a reliable journalist for Chelsea-related news, Frank Lampard and Everton are interested in Chelsea’s returning loanees, Conor Gallagher and Billy Gilmour.

Gallagher enjoyed a fine spell at Crystal Palace last season that ended with him picking up their ‘Player of the Season’ award. Gilmour too, has been a key figure in the Norwich City lineup for the past year.

With Chelsea’s reported interest in Richarlison of Everton, the Toffees might consider a deal involving either of the two player.

The report is quite limited though and it is unlikely that Tuchel would want to part with two of his most talented young midfielders, with the old guard being plagued with injuries last season.
