Rangnick Finally Reveals Why Phil Jones Started Ahead Of Eric Bailly In Defeat To Liverpool

When asked about why he started Phil Jones over Eric Bailly against Liverpool, Ralf Rangnick said: “Since Raphaël Varane is injured I had to decide between Jones and Bailly.

“I decided for Jones as an experienced player who talks to other players.”

The decision didn’t really pay off as Jones failed to make any impact and the Red Devils went on to concede two goals in the first half.

Phil was substituted at halftime as Rangnick moved from a five-man backline to a four-man defense. Even that resulted in two more goals being conceded in the second half and Man United falling to a 4-0 loss.
