Paul Scholes Finally Advises Erik ten Hag How He Should Treat Cristiano Ronaldo At Old Trafford

“I think it is almost more disrespectful playing him on a Thursday night in the Europa League. This man is a world superstar,” Paul Scholes told BT Sport about Erik ten Hag starting Cristiano Ronaldo in Man United’s 3-2 win over Omonia Nicosia.

“I am not saying at 37 years of age he should be starting the games, the big games especially, but this is a competition that is hard to get yourself motivated for.

“I don’t like saying that, but it’s true when you are a big player at a big club like this. He has to change his mentality now, and because he is so strong mentally, it will be to score two goals and get himself in the team for the weekend.”

Ronaldo did get an assist for one of Marcus Rashford’s goal, but had a frustrating outing as he missed a number of chances – including an absolute open-goal sitter.

The Portuguese forward has to keep working hard to reclaim his starting spot in Ten Hag’s side over the likes of Anthony Martial or Rashford.
