During his interview with the Manchester Evening News, Erik ten Hag was asked if it will be easier for Manchester United to move forward without Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ten Hag replied: “When he is in good shape, he is a good player and he could help us to get back and achieve the objectives we have.
“That is quite clear. But he wasn’t.”
Ronaldo’s goals appear to have dried up after he spent most of 2022/23 hitting the post or getting offside. The trend has continued in the World Cup as well, prompting coach Fernando Santos to bench him.
The 37-year-old has just scored four goals so far (three for United, one for Portugal in Qatar).
