WCQ : Jorginho Set New Italy Record As He Captains Against Lithuania

Chelsea italian Midfielder Jorginho set new Italy Record as he becomes the second non-native italian to captain italy at a major tournament .

Jorginho lead the Azzurri’s out against Lithuania , where the european champions ran riot over their lituanian counterpart in a 5-0 demolition at the Mapei stadium .

Jorginho wore the armband for the Azzurri, making him the first non-native Italian captain since Miguel Montuori in January 1960.

Who Holds The Previous Record Before Jorginho

Despite being born in Argentina, Montuori represented the Italy national football team, making his debut against France in 1956, and making his final appearance against Switzerland in 1960.

He also became the first non-Italian born player to captain Italy, wearing the captain’s armband in a friendly match against Spain, in Rome, on 28 February 1959. With Italy, he received 12 international caps and scored 2 goals.

With the International break now over , the Midfield mastro who has enjoyed a successful year , having won the champions league , Uefa super cup and the european best player award is now expected to return to chelsea and may be in contention to start against Aston villa .
