Barca Manager Xavi Replies To Manchester United’s Interest In Dutch Midfielder Frankie de Jong
In a recent media briefing, Barcelona boss Xavi was asked about Frenkie de Jong’s links to joining Manchester United.
Quoted by ESPN, Xavi replied: “He has to be a player that makes the difference and he does.
“There aren’t many players with his quality in the world. He’s the present and the future [at Barca].
“He is a very important player for me. He’s capable, strong, he gets into the box… He has had some excellent games, but he has to be consistent.”
The Barca manager added: “We had a face-to-face chat this week and it went well. Obviously being taken off is frustrating for him, but I have to look out for the team.”

De Jong, 24, has played a full 90 minutes only twice over Barca’s last 10 games amid increased competition for places in midfield.
The Dutch midfielder was visibly upset at being substituted during the defeat to Rayo Vallecano last weekend, which has further fuelled rumors of an exit.
De Jong is tied to the Camp Nou till 2026 but has been linked with a transfer to Old Trafford, with Erik ten Hag considering him a ‘priority’.
